How to Create a Marketing Plan Template (Part 1)
Do you have a marketing plan template? Did you create it yourself or did you use a software?
A proven template is worth gold! Whether you created your own marketing plan template and adjusted it along the way, or you used a good software to accomplish this task, you’re way ahead of many businesses who often do not take marketing very serious.
A marketing plan should always be aligned to the overall business plan. You can either include the marketing strategy plan into the business plan or design a separate document.
“Before beginning, plan carefully.” – Cicero (Roman Orator)
Do you want your business to be able to compete in today’s marketplace? Than you definitely need a well thought-out and proven marketing strategy plan. Don’t be one of those entrepreneurs who takes massive action without a plan. It’s like going on the battlefield not knowing what battle to fight, without having the necessary supplies and with no thorough knowledge whatsoever of the enemy. If you want to succeed in business you will need to combine the thinking and planning process with the action part of the game.
When designing your marketing plan template make sure you integrate all your marketing efforts!
Based on the objectives and goals included in your business plan you will need to set clear, realistic and measurable marketing objectives.
Core elements of your marketing plan template:
#1. Executive summary
Keep it short. One page is enough. Summarize the key points of your marketing strategy plan. Provide detailed answers in the body of your plan.
#2. Situation analysis
Describe the current landscape. Make sure you analyze both the internal (the classical 4 P’s: products, pricing, promotion, place but also people, processes) and the external (market overview, trends, technological, sociocultural factors, legal, political and economic factors) environment.
Further include a thorough customer, competitive and SWOT analysis. Make sure you know your USP and understand your target market. Focus on these elements as they are crucial.
Not knowing and understanding your target audience can lead to failure!
