Google’s Keyword Tool used to be my first go-to keyword research site. The tool was intuitive, easy to use and quick. But things have changed in the online world and the much-loved keyword tool has now been replaced by the Keyword Planner. Today’s online users are sophisticated and savvy thus making it a lot harder to figure out what they are searching for.
I continue to use the Keyword Planner now and then, nevertheless I have enlarged my arsenal of online marketing weapons and tools to improve my organic traffic.
To play the new online game the best way possible and attract quality prospects, I invite you to give the following five FREE keyword research tools a try.
Are you looking for a tool that tracks your keyword across the following major platforms — all at the same time?

Pretty funky, right?
It’s one of the most powerful free online marketing tools that I came across. The possibilities are endless. Soovle allows you to hover over each of these terms and continue your research on that particular source.
Say you want to know more about the term “marketing strategies” on Google. You hover over the keyword and hit enter. You’re now taken to Google’s first page showing all articles, images and videos related to “marketing strategies”.

2. Google Related Searches
Let’s stick to the term “marketing strategies” for a second longer and continue our journey on Google.
Google is the world’s biggest search engine, and whether we understand their mighty algorithm system or not is irrelevant. An easy way to find highly relevant combinations that include the keyword term we are searching for – is something called related searches.
Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Type “marketing strategies” into the Google search bar.
Step 2: Scroll to the bottom to harvest new keyword ideas.
Although we have recently witnessed the world’s biggest IPO raised by Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, Amazon.com remains the leader of the online retail space.
Google is a great place to look for both organic and paid keyword ideas. If on the other hand, you want to find hot keywords that are purchase-related you have to go to the one place that dominates this space. Obviously, I’m talking about Amazon.
So, here’s what you need to do in order to find great keywords on Amazon:
Step 1: Go to Amazon and type in your keyword.
Step 2: Select image view and sort by relevance or new and popular.
Step 3: Locate keywords in the title and description of the item. Pay close attention to the keywords customers have used in their product reviews. Have a look at the keywords that are used in the areas “Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought”, “Editorial Reviews”, “Customer Reviews” and “Most Helpful Customer Reviews”.
Use Amazon to your advantage. Include the selected keywords into an Excel spreadsheet to keep track.
I love this tool. If you’re looking for free keyword suggestions, Übersuggest – “suggest on steroids”, will do all the work for you. This awesome tool allows you to choose a language and a source. You can get suggestions from a regular web search or from search verticals such as videos, images, news, shopping and recipes.

5. Google Trends
Google Trends is more than just a simple keyword research tool. It is a serious online marketing weapon you can use to develop content ideas, promotional campaigns and generate high quality traffic.
When searching on Google Trends, you can choose to search worldwide or select a specific country. Furthermore, you can select different categories or leave the default “All categories”, choose a time range, do a regular web search or a vertical search similar to Übersuggest.
The biggest advantage of this tool is certainly fresh content. Google loves fresh content and will do whatever it takes to harness its power and display search results accordingly.
What Are Your Keyword Marketing Weapons?
If your marketing budget doesn’t allow you to invest in expensive tools, go ahead and use the marketing vehicles I mentioned above. Although I do a lot of my keyword analysis with a paid tool, I continue to use these free options for myself and my clients. Paid keyword tools certainly have their benefits and advantages but they are not the one all-encompassing truth for running a successful online business.
