In order to succeed in a loud and crowded world you need to have a strong unique selling proposition (USP). You either stand out or you blend in. If you want your audience to hear your message you have to differentiate yourself from the rest.
The internet has changed the way we communicate and do business. Everybody who has access to a laptop today can share their story and thus influence a large number of people. Given this ‘power’, the question that arises is: How are you going to make yourself heard? What’s the best way to share your valuable message, and more importantly, how do you intent to stand out from the crowd?
This reminds me of a quote by Abraham Lincoln:
“Every man is born an original, but sadly, most men die copies.”
If you want to build a successful business you need to master the fundamentals. First, you must pick a profitable niche and become obsessed with getting to know your niche as well as possible. Therefore, I suggest you go narrow and deep. Second, know and understand your target audience. Become your own custom avatar. Grab a sheet of paper and write down the motivating buying factors that determine your customers to purchase your products and services. Ask yourself why your customers prefer your products/ services as opposed to your competitors products / services. Third, and this one goes together with the custom avatar exercise – find out why do people purchase from you. What is it that differentiates your products / services and your company from everybody else on the market? What’s your unique selling proposition?
How to stand out from the crowd
The most common question amongst start-ups and small business owners is: How do I make myself stand out?
My answer to that: be creative! Understand what you are doing exceptionally well and bring that out in a fun and creative way.
Let’s have a look at how Sir Richard Branson, the genius behind Virgin does it. He’s well known for his “screw it, let’s do it” concept that works in several business areas. He knows how important creativity is and uses it to the max. Check out the video below to see exactly what I mean by using creativity in order to stand out and create an incredible customer experience.
Unique Selling Proposition: Use Your Creative Style

Creativity is crucial in defining your unique selling proposition and positioning your company / brand for maximum impact. Your goal is to become the ‘go to’ business!
Short recap:
1. Know exactly what it is (the differentiating factor) that makes customers choose you and purchase from you as opposed to your competitors.
2. Human beings are the most creative creatures on this planet. Use your creative style, enjoy the process and have fun just like Richard Branson.
3. Include YOU, your persona, your strengths into your unique selling proposition. Your task is than to manage to transfer your uniqueness onto your small business thus allowing you to stand out.
Remember, a weak USP will push you out of business. A strong USP on the other hand, can turn your business into a huge success. It’s decision time.
Bottom Line: Are you ready to increase the impact of your business and boost your profits with a powerful unique selling proposition?
