What is it that drives you? What motivates you to achieve your dreams and accomplish your goals? The power of your why will make or break your business, career, dreams and future.
What is it that makes people like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet, Jay-Z etc. to accomplish so much in life? Is it their willpower, persistence, attitudes and habits? What is it that makes these people stand out from the crowd and lead a tremendously successful and fulfilling life?
Here’s what multimillionaire T. Harv Eker has to say:
“The Bigger the Why the Easier the How. If you have a good enough reason, you’ll figure out a way how, won’t you? (…) When you have a big enough reason, the “how to’s” come a lot more easily. You need clear and powerful reasons. (…) More importantly, your why has to be stronger than those non-supportive beliefs you’ve been working on. You have to have a strong purpose for pursuing money, or anything that really matters to you. If you have nothing behind it, where is there to go? You’re either growing or dying! You’re either going to it or away from it! Got it?”
The Power of Apple’s WHY
Let’s take Apple for example.
Why is Apple so innovative? Year after year, Apple is more innovative than its competition. How come a computer company that has access to the same resources, agencies, consultants, and media is more successful than any other computer company on this planet. There is something else at play here.
Simon Sinek discovered a new pattern and called his principle (model) “The Golden Circle“. This model states the following: Instead of working yourself backwards (like most people and companies do) – from WHAT to HOW to WHY – you should approach everything from the inside out. And that is, start with WHY and only after you have defined your why move over to HOW and WHAT. This is what great, inspiring leaders like Marthin Luther King and organizations such as Apple do.

The Power Of Your WHY With Simon Sinek
“People don’t buy what you do; they buy WHY you do it.” – Simon Sinek
How can we implement these valuable lessons into our marketing message to attract more loyal customers and generate profits?
The most important question in marketing and business is the following:
Why should I do business with you vs. any/ every other company?
When you have a great answer to this question, you have the golden key to the vault!
You can define your WHY and thus clarify your unique selling proposition (USP) by focusing obsessively on your customers. Find out WHY they buy things. Most companies focus their attention on the “what do people buy” instead of the driving forces that are truly responsible for their buying decision. You have to get into the minds and hearts of your customers. Think different (Apple slogan). Brainstorm with your team on a regular basis and listen to what customers have to say about the value you provide. Don’t be afraid to ask your customers for feedback.
Customers love to give feedback, write reviews and share their thoughts with friends and followers on social networks. We are human beings and we love to communicate.
Companies that tap into this powerful feedback-system are the ones to keep their product and service portfolios up to date. As already stated above, people don’t buy what you do but they certainly buy why you do it.
I’d like to end today’s blog post with a tribute to Steve Jobs – a genius businessperson that revolutionized the way we understand and ‘consume’ technology today.
